Things are wrapping up for the Middle-High School competitors for the season.
The English team had their first show in December and faired well with four 6th place entries. Congratulations to Kaylynn, Paige, Ally and Lizzie on their accomplishments. Sorry I don't have more information on this show. I wasn't able to attend this one. The next and last English show is Feb 6-7 at Blue Lakes Farm in Newbury OH. If anyone would like to come cheer on the English team they are more than welcome to do so. Email me for more information if you'd like to attend as a spectator. Jumping is on the 6th and flat work is on the 7th. Rachel will be competing in the jumping which should be fun for everyone to watch.
The Western Team faired well also with their shows on 2 consecutive weekends. January 16 we had Aaron, Erin, Ashley, Amanda and Bridget at Findlay College. Everyone did well for their first experiences in a new show environment. We walked away with a handful of placings including Amanda's 2nd place finish on a not so quiet horse (but according to the handler he was SUPER quiet...yeah right). I apologize for not knowing everyone's placings, but I believe everyone walked away with 4ths, 5ths and 6ths. Ashley Aviles walked away with the Sportsmanship award for the 2nd show for her improvement in rides! Awesome job Ashley!
Then we were off to our second Western show at Champions Center in Springfield on the 24th. With us traveled 2 first time show-ers Sarah and Natalie. They both did awesome at their first competitions, both earning points for the team. Way to go! Bridget did great on the most ugly horse anyone has ever seen, Brie, and captured 6th I believe (sorry if that's wrong Bridget). Amanda pulled a horse that was a bit, ummmm.... lets just say out of control for her first ride, but finished the class without any major come aparts! What is it with Amanda and out of control horses? Ashley worked hard at keeping her legs back so they didn't have to be glued to the saddle and did well for her 2nd IEA competition, finishing in the top 6 (I think!). I should have written all the placings out!
All in all I think the Western team learned a few things about how this program works and I think everyone walked away with a pleasant experience, and LOTS of hairspray, right Erin???
Western shows are done for the season, but there is a chance we might be invited to regionals, so if that happens I'll keep everyone posted.
Event Dates at EQD
SCAVENGER HUNT FOR K-5 TEAM MEMBERS
We've nailed down a date for the K-5 team members' event to be coordinated and run by the 6-12 members per the team responsibilities. We will have a scavenger hunt on Saturday March 27th in the afternoon. The older members will need to have a meeting to get this organized at least 2 weeks prior. Does March 13 work for everyone to meet? Plan on at least an hour meeting if not longer to get it coordinated. If anyone (parent or otherwise) has done something like this before please come with ideas in hand or pass along via email prior to the meeting.
EQD SPRING LESSON SHOW
Once again this year we will be having our spring show at EQD. This year we will be having the event on Sunday, May 16th. We'd like to leave this open to the younger kids only, but if you are on the competing IEA team and still REALLY REALLY want to show, we can make the arrangements. It will also be a responsibility of the 6-12 IEA competing members to help out at the show as part of their responsibilities on the team. The show will start at 12pm this year. As the show approaches we will have more details.
EQD TEAM PICNIC
The first annual EQD Team Picnic will be on Friday evening May 7th. We will start the picnic in the late afternoon probably around 5pm. In addition to current members, we encourage you to bring someone you think might want to join the team for the next year. We will also be having team officer elections. Which officers we will elect has not been determined yet, but we are thinking basic officers: President, VP, Fundraising Coordinator, Treasurer, Secretary, Event Coordinator, Publicity Manager/Recruiter. These positions are open to all members K-12 with parental supervision. We will also be going over team fee schedules, show season, etc.
